9 months…and Daycare!

It was the tiniest thing I ever decided to put my whole life into. ~Terri Guillemets

Lila’s 9th month….what a month it was! Lets see…. where to begin…..well Ill start off by saying that the monthly frog pics are getting harder and harder to get.  She now realizes she can get off the frog and there is just “no time for pictures mom!” there were approximately 3 pictures of her looking at the camera – but luckily she is one of the cutest. kids. ever. so we got a good one 😉  I do think that she has really changed in the past month…she seems more in control of her body, she can sit up, she is starting to look like a little lady…..it still takes my breath away a bit to think how just 9 months ago she was this little blob that didn’t even span the length of  the frog and now shes her own little person!

At this months check-up LK weighed in at 20lbs 4 oz (75% percentile) and was 29″ (90th percentile).  He said we were right on track developmentally and she looked great – he is always impressed with how well she is doing given how early she was. We don’t go back until 12 months!

This month our little nosey girl got more nosey! She is really aware of what is going on and wants whatever we are eating, doing, drinking – and she wants it all a once! She still isn’t “officially” crawling yet – meaning she isnt making us chase her yet….. She gets up on all fours and in a VERY uncoordinated fashion inches forward.  She has actually got much better in the last week since starting daycare (more on that in a bit!)….I’m sure she is just trying to show up all the other kids 🙂    She is experimenting with pulling up on us, but doesn’t quite get that she can do that with other stationary objects. She LOVES to be walked around, if all else fails and she is being a cranky pants if we let her walk around “on her own” she is all smiles.   Because she is so nosey, she does pretty well when we take her out and about – as long as she can do some people watching and look around we can get a few hours out of her!

Food wise she is still holding strong at 4 bottles of formula and three solid meals a day. We practice with finger foods at dinner or when we go out to eat – sometimes she really gets it and eats like a mad woman, and sometimes she just puts food in, gags in a dramatic fashion, and then whines until we bring out the purees.  I can definitely tell she is getting it more within the last week or so – on the nights she “gets it” she wants to do it herself and wont let us put the bits in her mouth.  All the foods we are giving her are still pretty soft and mushy – I think once she gets more teeth we will try some more “solid” solid finger foods!

So the big news for the month is we officially started day care this month! For those that don’t know, we were very blessed that Chris’s grandmother was able to watch LK for the last 6 months since I went back to work.  Before Lila decided to get all crazy and  grace us with her presence 2 months early, we had planned to enroll her in daycare when I went back to work. But with her being a preemie and all the worry we had as first time parents, we weren’t comfortable with our original plan. (Side note –  you should NOT be able to decide on a daycare when 8 weeks pregnant with your first child.) Luckily, the timing was right and Mamaw was able to love, squeeze and spoil Lila  every day while we were at work.  We always said we would enroll her in daycare in the summer – we both really think the right daycare can be really beneficial to a child – but it was a really tough decision for us when that time came! We decided to just put her on our first choice daycare list and see what happened…. If she got in… great! if not…. it wasnt the time! Well….she got in – in June.  We kind of thought it would be August or September…..Chris and I werent emotionally ready for June!

So we decided to wait until July (a very expensive decision – but so worth it!).  The first day was pretty nerve racking for me, but I’m happy to report that she is doing SO well! I was super emotional leaving her…not that I thought I wouldn’t be worried or nervous but the waterworks that ensued when I walked out of that room really suprised me!

So far I think she really likes it and her teachers say she is the sweetest thing (umm…of course!) Its a definite change for Chris and I as well – I believe we spend more time prepping her for the next school day than we do for ourselves – so much stuff to take each day….geesh!

Well this post got away from me, I guess what I’m trying to get at in my novel is – Lila’s 9th month has been really awesome….I think she gets more fun each day.  Each month I think ” this is my favorite time….” – only to be out done the next month, so I’m ready month 10 – bring it on!

Ahhh…Summer!

So the month of June is quickly flying by! Summer is supposed to be a time to relax and hang by the pool and visit family and friends….and we have done all of that in the past few weeks! Well with the exception of the “relax” part. I dont think as a parent you get to relax unless your children are with their grandparents or they are adults 🙂

So whats been happening…lets see…

  • This past weekend we loaded up LK for her first road trip to visit Chris’s Dads side of the family in South Texas. Chris’s older sister flew in with her family, aunts and cousins from Houston drove in…it was really a great time! Lila did REALLY well too….I have to admit I was prepared for the worst – I’m the type of person that prefers to expect the worst and be pleasantly surprised – so with the heat and lots of “new” people I was ready for a fuss pot. BUT she did awesome! She went down for naps (the Nap Gods even gave me a 2 hour one!) ate well, played in the pool and was just generally good natured! Traveling is definitely more exhausting with her – just being in a new environment and schlepping all her “stuff” – but the trip gave me a boost of confidence that we can do it. Have baby – will travel!

  • Earlier in the month Chris and I took Lila to Ft Worth for the day – complete with a trip to Joe T Garcias and Rahr brewery…I felt a little awkward taking LK to a brewery at first (I kept replaying Sweet Home Alabama.. “You have a baby…in a bar!”) but there were tons of kids there and so my guilt subsided! She is really a nosey baby and loves staring at people so we think she had fun, it was actually pretty interesting for Chris and I as well.

AND in other news – Chris and I are still gearing up for San Fran. We are in week 11 of our 17 week plan and although not every run is awesome, I feel like Ill be prepared by race day (you will have to ask Chris for his thoughts on his training 🙂 ) Our Trip to San Fran is our next big adventure with LK – she is coming with us! (Insert fear here…) So if you have any tips for traveling with a 10 month old (Yikes! 10 months!!) feel free to share!

Fathers Day is this weekend and we are looking forward to celebrating the awesome guys in our lives! I know LK is pretty lucky to have such an awesome, silly, amazing dad….it fills my heart to see these two together…

Hope everyone has an awesome Fathers Day weekend….

8 months

I think every month post starts like this, but I can’t believe LK is 8 months old- the past month has been so busy and I keep fighting the internal battle of whether I want to freeze time or fast forward it! LK wants desperatly to be mobile….she doesnt really care about the crawling thing but the walking thing….THAT intrigues her. She hasnt really shown any interest in pulling up or at least any coordinated interest.  She wants very badly to eat our food but the lack of teeth and hand eye coordination is making that hard as well…..all these things lead to a frustrated baby and tired parent! These things make me want to fast forward time, but when we are rocking or playing with the “baby in the mirror” or I’m kissing her sweet little neck I want to freeze it! Dont grow up so fast!!!

I’m not sure what she weighs as we don’t go for another well baby until next month, but we are pretty sure she is at least 20 lbs. She has grown out of most of her 6 mth clothes with the exception of a few onesies and dresses.  We did make the determination that she has extremely small feet….she isn’t out of 0-3 mth shoes yet!  Her hair is coming in pretty fast….it is definitely a shade of blonde, but we can’t tell if she will be platinum or sandy yet! We also don’t see any kink of curl yet, but I hear that can take a while to devlop….Im still dreaming!

Speaking of tootsies, this month she found them, she attempts to put them in her mouth every time she is on the changing table….she also likes to play the back and forth game (she wants whoever she isnt with).  She has started gravitating towards her more mobile toys, the excersaucer doesn’t catch her attention as much any more since she can’t “go” in it. We borrowed a walker from her cousins and she has really caught on quickly! At Easter she could only go backwards…sometimes. Now she can maneuver that thing around chairs, tables, door frames….my toes have been casualties too many times already! 🙂

On the food front I can definitely tell she is my child! The girl likes to eat! We have been experimenting with table foods but the bulk of her solid meals are in the form of purees.  She is starting to figure out the pincer grasp and can manage to get the puffs in her mouth now, although she still relies on her fist and palm for most of her eating.   Table food wise she has liked pancakes, peas & carrots, bananas, strawberries, avocado, mashed potatoes, and oddly enough she really likes pickles and lemons. She is not phased AT ALL by the sourness of those two – but give the girl an un-ripe strawberry and you should see the faces she makes! too funny 🙂  She will eat anything off of our plates if its soft enough but we are really trying to let her experiment with food on her own and although very messy anything we can let her feed herself (with fingers) we do.  This week we added a third solid meal to her day…. I think she is going through a growth spurt….  She has been much more mobile and restless lately so I guess it makes sense….we will see how she does 🙂

Teething wise she is still holding out with just the bottom two. I really think she is getting ready to have a few more break through but I can’t feel anything! Supposedly they have 4 – 6 teeth before they turn 1 so  I guess we have a few months to go! Drool has just become an accepted part of our day and outfit 🙂 (See pic above!)

She gets more fun every day… I cant wait to get home each day and see her smile! On to month nine!!
